Machete Avenue

The First Cuts [EP] (2006)

One of Underground Operations’ newer bands Machete Avenue releases their debut EP, The First Cuts! Machete Avenue’s new EP is much different anything else Underground Operations has to offer to our music scene. This band is not political by any means, they’re not punk rock, and they don’t play the crazy metal madness….

The band Machete Avenue is a dark emotional kind of band; almost something eerie, but with a gothic touch I would like to say. The guys are from London, Ontario and have been playing shows around the GTA for a bit now, having built a solid fan base around Ontario. The EP has 7 kick-ass songs that will take you up and down an emotional roller coaster from start to finish. They even do a very classy cover of “Time After Time” by Cyndi Lauper! This is almost like a new kind of music in a way because, it’s like Classical and Emo mixed together. Maybe it’s like a high class emo… HAHA!

With a running time of 25:48, the band Machete Avenue sure shows more emotion then most bands that try and pull this stuff off. It must be because Machete Avenue is the real deal! They play and pull off their style of music so well! It’s so honest, so perfect, and so beautifully classy in an equally unique way. Songs like “Water fall” and “Before It Bleeds” are such catchy songs that you think you would be hearing them on the radio all day long. They’re very sad songs, but they’re well compiled and the finished products (a.k.a. songs) are always very well done.

The best thing about this CD is the way it sounds. The production quality on The First Cuts is so well put together that just that alone makes you want to listen to it over a few times. The acoustic guitar tone is so powerful and so clean that it makes this CD sound just amazing! Chad’s voice is definitely a unique instrument to the fullest; he can harmonize so well. His range is very low, but that’s what makes his singing cool. It’s emo, but he doesn’t sound like a little crying boy one bit. So check this shit out right now, I think you will be more then impressed.

Their music is excellently compiled and comes with a hard work ethic and honest. Listen to these guys and accept them! I give this CD 8 out of 10.  [ END ]
