Nickelback – “All The Right Reasons” [Album Review]

Just listening to the CD, it’s in your face whether you like it or not, and makes for some great live music.

I hate haters to the point where I had to add a disclaimer to this review… and here it is.

I’m going to take this opportunity to review this CD for what I think its worth, and to finally have people stop dogging on this band. People; be proud of what they have accomplished, millions of albums sold, sold out tours, and not what embarrasses you to like them because it doesn’t out-weigh the good. Anyway I don’t want to hear it, he doesn’t sound like Eddie Vedder, Scott Stapp or whomever you think he does, he was born with a voice and uses it, end of story. I hate when people automatically make assumptions, “he copies him, he copies that”, get over it.

Now for the review, apparently this disc can be copied 3 times, how great. It makes perfect sense; you buy the album, and make a copy for your mother, your father, and little Jimmy down the road. It just takes a long time to upload to your comp.

This is the bands first release with new drummer Daniel Adair (former Three Doors Down). The intro to the first track sounds like an awesome intro to an encore at a concert. Towards the end of the track, some freaky deaky voice machine kicks in and it’s actually cool.

Unleashing two big radio hits to date off this album, you can’t help but wonder if they will unleash more, with that said; I’m thinking this is a good commercial record. “Photographs” is so reminiscent of their past, it’s a refreshing change from Chad singing about people “going down on him.” It’s a good song, admit you love it.

Lyrically, the album hasn’t picked up where their last release The Long Road left off. Musically, it’s a bit harder. “Animals” is in your face, and makes a kick ass concert song. Radio stations are playing this track before their second single has even started being played which is “Savin’ Me.” Also with that said, they gave into the slang of youth today. “Savin’ Me” really reminds me of the track “How You Remind Me” intro wise anyway. It has a cool concept for the video.

“Far Away”, the ballad of the album, is something you’ll be hearing on Chum FM, if they decide to release it as a single. The song is pretty decent; I’m a sucker for any rock band and their ballads.

It’s pretty apparent that the track “Side of a Bullet” has Dimebag Darrell’s guitar solo overdubbed. The song is obviously about the Darrell tragedy and instead of taking a ballad-ish approach making it all sad and what not, they rocked it out, and I’m sure Dimebag is smiling wherever he may be. Another semi-ballad is “If Everyone Cared.” The only song on the album I don’t care for, is the last track “Rockstar”, go read the lyrics.

I’ve seen Nickelback live, I bought my cousin tickets to their show last February, we were in the front row, and it was in your face, and I didn’t complain one bit. They played old tunes, new tunes, and had way too much fun with their “Beer O’ Clock.” They rocked out, the ACC was packed, and it was a great rock show. You can’t deny a great rock show no matter who is putting it on.

Just listening to the CD, it’s in your face whether you like it or not, and makes for some great live music. Hey they can’t be that insignificant in the music scene, they’re friends with Tommy Lee. Clearly the band isn’t going to quit anytime soon, so either love them, or hate them, because apparently there is no middle ground. Just remember if you’re going to criticize people for doing what they love, and putting 100% into, you better have some hard-hitting facts.
