Ever We Fall

Seven seconds into the first song, and while the first lyrics are sung, I immediately think of Claudio Sanchez and Geddy Lee. The vocals are not quite the same as these two greats, but enough to make the comparison.

This is Ever We Fall’s debut album on Hopeless Records and sans bassist at that (bass on the album is courtesy of Jay Turk, guitarist Ryan Furlott and Mike Kalajian). Touring alongside the band in the coming months is bassist Aaron.

I’m not ashamed to say it, but I like these safe pop/punk bands. I mean we can’t always listen to that depressing stuff so what’s wrong with a little upbeatness?

What makes this a cliché “pop punk” album are its “whiney” vocals and the classic pop influenced melodies. Hey, it’s not a bad thing to not have a piercing high pitched voice. In any case, the guitars lead and drums follow behind, and the lyrics captivate. The lyrical content is not your typical “pop punk” style; girls are the minority on the album, while life experiences are the greater subject matter. I can’t help but think that this album has a very “indie” feel to it. Not because they are on an indie label, it just feels that way. The album is powered by pop hooks, and oh so catchy melodies; We Are But Human is indeed a great pop/punk album.

The order in which the songs are presented is a bit puzzling. “No Words to Describe” serves as the bands interlude taking a break from the hype, but tracks 9, 10, and 11 aren’t so hyper anymore. The album then wraps up with a lengthy tune (7:08) which is a calmer song in its own right.

Overall the album is danceable (when no one is watching) and very enjoyable. My favourite track is “State Bird: The Mosquito.”

Dammit! I really wish I knew what that abovementioned phrase mentioned meant!

Soliciting the help of their loyal fans, Ever We Fall hope to promote the album online and via a State-side tour lasting until April. Unfortunately as of yet, there are no details as to when they will hit the Great White North.
